About this Programme

In a bid to enhance international exposure and bolster managerial competencies through experiential learning, Thiagarajar School of Business successfully organized an International Outbound Training Programme to Malaysia. This initiative was designed for the PGDM batch, consisting of 179 students and 6 faculty members, and was conducted from July 19 to August 2, 2025. The programme was part of the Future Leaders Exchange Programme (FLEX) in collaboration with Saito University College and the Kuala Lumpur International Education Consortium. The participants were accommodated at the UTM Hotel and Residences in Kuala Lumpur, which served as the base for several academic and institutional interactions.

During their time in Kuala Lumpur, students visited Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), where they explored its academic infrastructure, research culture, and initiatives in internationalization. This engagement offered valuable insights into how renowned global institutions design curricula, foster innovation, and align academic delivery with industry expectations. The group also visited the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, gaining an understanding of global accreditation standards, outcome-based education, and models for international collaboration. An industrial visit to Royal Salongar further enriched the experience by allowing students to observe organizational structures and operational workflows, linking classroom concepts to real-world practices.

The academic component of the programme featured a series of lectures and interactive sessions led by experienced international faculty members and industry experts. These sessions addressed critical management topics including strategic management in emerging markets, digital transformation and Industry 4.0, and global supply chain management. This exposure significantly enhanced students' conceptual clarity, analytical thinking, and ability to apply management frameworks across diverse business contexts.

The programme also included cultural immersion in Melaka, where students experienced Malaysia’s rich heritage and multicultural environment. This experience deepened their understanding of the interplay between culture, business practices, and economic development. To further develop teamwork and interpersonal skills, students engaged in structured activities like a treasure hunt, fostering collaboration and leadership. Additionally, a durian-eating competition encouraged students to embrace local traditions and cultivate openness to new experiences.

In conclusion, the International Outbound Training Programme provided a comprehensive learning platform that integrated academic enrichment, industry exposure, cultural understanding, and personal development. Participants emerged with heightened global business awareness, cross-cultural sensitivity, and practical management skills. This exposure is anticipated to contribute significantly to shaping students into competent, confident, and globally-oriented management professionals.
